Yes, I match socket bonuses

I already posted about how to spec your druid, now I’m going to post a little bit about gemming and enchanting :)

As a general rule I try to match socket bonuses.  I know a lot of people prefer to just gem everything as spell power, but I am not one of them, so unless the socket bonus is super-wank I will match it.  Don’t flame me with your math, I don’t care if you use straight spell power, I don’t.  This is what I use:

Red Socket <– Straight Spell Power
Blue Socket <– Spellpower/Spirit -or- (if going OOM) Straight Spirit
Yellow Socket <– Haste -or- Spell Power/Haste -or- (if soft haste capped) Spell Power/Intellect
Meta <– 21 Spell + 2% Int (Ember) -or- (if you have mana issues) 21 Int + Chance to Restore Mana (Insightful)

These are the enchants that I use:

Helm: 30 SP + 10 mp5, from Wyrmrest Accord
Shoulders: 24 SP + 8mp5, from Sons of Hodir
Cloak: 23 Haste (or if you’re an engineer, spell power!)
Chest: 10 all stats
Bracers: 30 Spell Power
Gloves: 28 Spell Power
Belt: Use a buckle or you suck! :)
Legs: 50 SP 20 Spirit thread
Boots: 18 Spirit
Weapon: 81 Spell Power (staff)

Hope that helps :)

  1. Thanks for the post. I’m a sucker for bonuses, too, and I match them unless they’re just dumb. I just can’t stand seeing that bonus grayed out ;) Only thing I really do different is Tuskarr’s on the boots. 18 spi is great, but running out of fire a little bit faster never hurt, either!

  2. I match socket bonuses, too. Those small bonuses do add up and I like being … balanced, I guess, and having them match makes me feel balanced… :)

  3. I also match socket bonuses. I’ve found that if it’s a plus spellpower bonus you are usually only losing 5 or 6 spellpower if you add the socket bonus, but you are gaining the 10 spirit in a sp/spirit gem. Since ICC I’ve been using Tuskarr’s on my boots.

WTB Spirt+Minor Run Speed Enchant :)

  5. for cape
if you were tailoring with 420, you could enchant either of “Lightweave Embroidery(spell damage)” or “Darkglow Embroidery (mana regen”.

    for sockets bonus issue,
it was really depending on how your gears were. For myself, i would sockets Runed Cardinal Ruby for red, Reckless Ametrine for yellow and Purified Dreadstone for blue. However, some gears had bonuses with +spell power, i would just socket the blue with purified and runed if it was yellow to boost my sp(since i had over haste soft cap)

  6. I also match my socket bonuses, I used to just gem straight spellpower. But I changed my ways a while back and now match all sockets.

For Red Sockets I of course use the Spellpower Gem

For Blue Sockets I use the Spellpower/Spirit Gem

and For Yellow Sockets I use the straight Haste Gem simply because I don’t have enough haste gear yet to meet the cap, As I upgrade I will more then likely start switching them over to Spellpower/Haste

  7. I am in the same boat in all honesty. More so with ICC gear since a lot of those socket bonus equate to plus 7 or 9 spell power anyway.

Plus being able to gem plus 12sp / 10 haste has allowed me to keep my 4 piece bonus and soft cap haste even when I wasn’t heavily ICC geared yet.

Then the spirit from the 12sp / 10 spirit isn’t shameful and with the much larger mana pool from ICC gear regan has gotten to the point of laughable again and the more the merrier is always my stance.

To gain all these things while only losing maybe in the end 10-12 spell power is well worth it in my opinion since SP is pretty cheaply earned these days with gear anyway.

  8. Almost all top guilds (including Ensidia) consider Tuskar’s Vitality (sta + speed increase) to be best in slot enchant for boots for eny class. In my guild tanks have two sets of boots – one for static fight and one for dinamic. For melee – its a must to have.

And trees are no exclusion. Considering most of our healing is comming from insta HoTs, in dynamic fight there is no better boost to HPS than speed inscrease, when you can cast while moving and covering all out of range tagets on “flight”.

Guess we’ll just have to disagree on that Veeka :) I have no issue reaching people, or getting out of bad stuff so I’ll be sticking with my spirit!

  10. Not sure if u want to print this- It’s just a question I have. How did u get ur alchemy to 465 on your Tauren Druid???
This site has helped me soooo much and I especially love the macro topic. I have been maxxed out on my Alchemy for over a year now and my tree is dying to make something new :)

    Thank you,

Tauren racial gives +15 to herbalism… its the herbalism at 465 not the alchemy :)

  12. This may sound like a noob question but why Spirit over M5 for a healer?. I thought only M5 regenerated mana during a fight.

  13. Bull, unless ur sub 60 u should know spirit is better for Druids for several reasons. 1 being that in tree form spirit gives u spell power, and who doesnt like spell power. 2 Living Spirit increases how much spirit u have by 15% so it makes it more appealing. Last but not least 3 Druids dont spend much time casting its mostly instant cast hots which means spirit is just fine.

  14. So nice to see a website that doesn’t sway to the math-nazis. Just started as a resto (now lvl 33) and appreciate that you match socket bonuses and don’t follow the norm. Thanks.

  15. i have stoped using the SP/mp5 enchat as i find that my regeneration is good enough.

i have instead changed to SP/Crit as now i seem to be doing a bit more lifebloom/Noursh aorund i found it was slightly better.
