Blood-Queen Lana’thel

As promised a post and video for Blood Queen Lana’thel! First, I’ll start by linking my latest video, in which I’m actually brave enough to speak! No more reading subtitles :)  The information in the video isn’t exclusive to healers, so feel free to pass it along to anyone you think might find it useful!

During this fight there are two major debuffs you will get as a tree. The first is called Swarming Shadows, and will put a flame under you that trails behind you when you run. This is exactly like the green one you get on Jaraxxus, only this one is purple. All of the same principles apply… don’t stand in one place, don’t drag it through the raid, don’t leave it in melee.

The second is called Pact of the Darkfallen, and will draw a line between you and another raid member. All you need to do to remove this debuff is to stand next to each other. In our raids we had a designated meeting spot in the middle to run to. If you keep running past each other, it won’t go off, be sure to stop for a moment to actually remove the debuff. This effects two people at a time on ten man and three people at a time on twenty-five man.

Also, during this fight you have the whole vampire thing going on. Basically the Blood Queen bites the highest DPS and makes them a vampire. Being a vampire buffs their damage, and eventually they will get hungry for blood and need to bite a non-vampire in the raid. When this happens they will have 15 seconds to bite before being mind controlled. Naturally, it’s smartest to spread this buff to another high dps. These two will later bite again resulting in four vampires, and those four will bite resulting in eight vampires. Chances are as a tree, you won’t get bit unless you’re the only one near a vampire who bites to keep from getting mind controlled. If you have a shaman, wait until you have eight vampires before blowing heroism.

The person closest to the tank in this fight will get blood mirror and receive 100% of the damage dealt to the tank. We didn’t use an off-tank for this, we used a death knight with a little tank gear on for health, but in mostly DPS gear and spec, and it was easy enough to heal through. As it is the person closest to the tank that gets the mirror, make sure your dps doesn’t run in before your soaker and get themselves killed!

Once or twice during the encounter the Blood Queen will fly up into the air, and fear everyone. When she does this, be sure to spread out because the shadow bolts she throws down not only damage you but splash damage the people around you. If you’re spread out the damage isn’t that bad. It’s a great time to use barkskin, and have your non-druid healer pop any raid wide cooldowns they might have.

Throughout the entire fight there is a lot of raid damage going on. If you are a meter whore (please no comments about why meter whores suck) you’ll love this fight, because you can spam like crazy, it’s very Druid friendly.

Best of Luck with the fight!

  2. amg, how come I didnt know of this website? You just gained a follower. <3 trees

  3. The voice guidance makes it that much better, can’t wait to venture past the 4th boss.

  4. Nice video! the voice help indeed

  5. Awesome video. I gave my 10 man the tip you said about pausing for a moment to make sure the debuff is off, and we downed her last night. I am a fellow tree, I found your site a few weeks ago. Thanks for a great and helpful site.

  6. You’re video is the best I’ve seen yet!

  7. I am a fellow tree. My self, a resto shammy and a holy pally was having a hard time healing this on 10man last night (at one point I was doing 9.5k hps, the shammy 7k hps and pally 5k hps). We’re not sure why are healing so much and still wiping. We’re running to the center when we have pacts and such. Any advice? I’m literally spamming regrowth on everyone then rejuv. I’m running oom faster that ever and had to use innervate and a pot every attempt.

When are you wiping? Just during the general fight or is it usually in an air phase? When I have run with a paladin in the past s/he was usually popped divine sacrifice during that first air phase so that we don’t lose anyone. If your pali isn’t doing this you might suggest it!

  9. Yeah it’s typically during the air phase that people die. But there seems to be a bunch of raid damage otherwise also. Often times, people are hanging around 50% health. I’ll suggest the pally do divine sacrifice, ty :)
