Festergut – Flu Shot Shortage

Well, as you all know a new wing in ICC opened up a couple days ago.  The goal of our 10 man has been to really push ourselves and try to stay on top of the achievements, getting them done as soon as possible.  Having done Festergut earlier in the evening on 25 man we knew this would be no issue on 10 man.

The Fight

Before we get to the achievement, first let me talk a little about the fight in general.  This fight goes back and forth between being heavy raid damage, and heavy tank damage, so you need to know what’s about to happen to heal it effectively.  As you head into the room you’re going to want to spread out so that you aren’t within ten yards of anyone (easy on 10s, slightly harder on 25s.)  The room will fill with gas and the raid will take damage.  You’re going to want to be rolling full rejuvenations on the raid, and using your WG cooldown every time it is up.

During the fight spores will appear over people’s heads.  When this happens you want to group up on top of someone with a spore, but not group the spores on top of each other.  Also make sure one of the spores get’s dragged over to the tank, incase one didn’t spawn in melee.  The reason for this is that the spores will explode and deal damage (why you don’t stack two of them) and also inoculate everyone near by.  Once you get inoculated you want to spread back out ASAP, because he can also cause party members to vomit, stunning you and anyone you vomit onto.  You really don’t want to chain vomit though your group.  After the spores have popped he will inhale some gas, causing raid damage to decrease, and tank damage to increase.  Also note that the tanks are getting debuffed so your two tanks will be taunting off each other, be sure you know which one to spam!

After the spores have spawned three times, Festergut will shoot out huge raid damage.  If you are not inoculated, it will one shot you.  But for every stack of the inoculation you have, the damage is reduced by 25%.  So if you are doing this fight normally, you will take 75% less damage.  Also, Druids, your barkskin CD will be up every time he does this, so use it!  I know that the tank damage will be pretty intense right before this happens, but once you get full HOTs on the tank, I recommend you start blanketing the raid with rejuv in anticipation of this damage.

The fight then resets, the room fills with gas again, and you are back to the heavy raid damage, light tank damage.  Repeat!  The thing that will stop most guilds on this fight isn’t the fight mechanics… it’s the five minute enrage timer.  Best of luck everyone!

Flu Shot Shortage

The achievement for this fight is called Flu Short Shortage, and requires that nobody in your raid ever get a three stack of inoculation.  If your healers are decent doing it this way is just as easy as doing it the normal way.  Basically everything about the fight is the same, except when people get the spores.  The first time the spores spawn, the people with them just get the hell out of the raid, and take the one inoculation.  The second time they spawn, everyone stacks as normal except people who already have one inoculation.  By the third spawn everyone should have one inoculation, and you just stack as normal.  If for some reason you have two stacks already, just run out so you don’t get a third.  There is a bit of RNG involved with this… if the same person gets chosen for the spore three times, you really have no choice but to wipe up and try again.

I didn’t notice that the damage was that bad with only two inoculations.  Just make sure you have the raid blanketed at the appropriate times, and that everyone uses any class or racial damage reduction skills they may have.  Good luck guys!
