You, Haste, and 3.3

With the changes to Gift of the Earthmother, we have to work a little harder to cap off our global cooldown (GCD).  Having raided for a whole two days as not soft haste capped, I have to say… I needed a change.  So…. in addition to obviously having GotEM, I now also have three click into Celestial Focus for the extra 3% to haste.  Yes, this required me to go farther down the balance tree than I have previously, and I had to give up some restoration clicks, but I think it’s for the best.

I currently have two resto specs, both are very similar but slightly different, and with different glyphs.   I use one for 10 mans or smaller, and the other for 25 man… however I have included celestial focus in both specs.

So how much haste do you need for a 1 second GCD?  Below are some numbers borrowed from elitist jerks, hopefully you’ll find them helpful :)

   To sum it up, with raid buffs you most likely are looking for 735 haste with celestial focus, or 856 without it.

I have been trying to figure this out.. Until now I never looked into much of class mathematics since my raiding has always been one patch behind.. i.e. I only started farming ToC now and attmepting ToGCs now.

But now I am looking to do lot of ICC10/25 so I started looking up these haste caps etc more rigourously.

The haste ratings mentioned above..Are they after raid buffs are applied or before they are applied? i.e. Is it the number that shows up on the character panel when I am soloing or when I am in Raid?

  2. Archdruid Angela says:

The numbers you see in this post are what you want BEFORE raid buffs are applied :)

  3. Cowdude says:

Re: Archdruid Angelas comment above – so what haste should I be looking for to get 1s GCD with raid buffs then? 735/856, or can it be lower?
    Ta Cow x

  4. Archdruid Angela says:

    @ CowDude

You’re looking for 735 if you have 3 clicks in the “celestial focus” talent and 856 if you have 0 clicks in this talent

  5. Damnbonz says:

Which spec do you use for 10 man and which do you use for 25 man?

  6. Archdruid Angela says:

I use my 1st spec (and a haste glyph) for 10s, and my 2nd spec (no haste glyph) for 25s

  7. Archdruid Angela says:

I’m happy to report that after getting a new necklace last night I’m now only 20 off haste cap in raid :) Very glad that I choose to take CF :)

  8. Archdruid Angela says:

I use my 1st spec (and a haste glyph) for 10s, and my 2nd spec (no haste glyph) for 25s

For anyone reading this now, this is no longer the case. My first spec will now often be a PVP spec… so don’t visit my armory and think it’s a 10 man spec :) I’ll get the actual specs posted on here when I have time!!

  9. Arcsine-Alexstraza says:

.. dont see what the big deal is about being capped. I use a different spec than most druids so I dont remotely to be haste capped(while i am only 665 haste i still have ~21% :HT glyphed; .68 sec cast, avg cast=7800 in 10 man). I dont plan on doing tier ten(maybe i will show you the math in another post); so I need crit at least as much as haste(22% unbuffed). I will be posting the math as well as a multitude of samples soon. But my spec is about 1/3 tank hotting/swiftmending, 1/3 HT/swifment ppl who would most likely die w/o that heal, and 1/3 rejuving party. Who thinks a druid could be more usefull?

    • Archdruid Angela says:

Arcsine – There is really no way to say this without seeming like an elitist bitch, which I really am not, but I’m going to say it anyway cause what the hell, it’s my blog :) People who take that sort of attitude are usually from unprogressed guilds and don’t really understand heavy raid damage. You probably heal your daily heroic, never quite killed Yogg, and think ToGC isn’t *really* harder than ToC, you just got bad luck. Show me as much math as you want, your post already told me that you think you have to do every healers job. Blanketing the raid doesn’t mean a druid isn’t being useful, it means that they have trust in the other healers in the raid to do their job. You have however inspired my next post on healingcouncil.com so watch for that in the next couple days :)

  10. mz says:

Wow, how super insightful… i consider myself a major noob resto druid..compared to the knowledge that you throw out in these blogs and post…… i’ll definitely keep coming back for more… keep it up with these excellent posts!

  11. Archdruid Angela says:

I am now haste capped without Celestial focus (Thank you Dying Light!) and have gone to a 14-0-57 spec. *cheer*

  12. gutrot says:

Is it worth keeping pts in nature’s grace after you hit 856? There aren’t a whole lot of really good talents left in resto but seems like those 3 pts could put to a better use

  13. Archdruid Angela says:

I didn’t have those three points there before the GotEM change, but now that I’ve had them I think I’ll keep them. On those occasions I’m casting a lot of regrowth they are handy, and the resto talent choices aren’t overly appealing.

  14. zanzolo says:

    Greetings Archdruid Angela,

The cute Tauren gal on your site wallpaper is great, I know a tree that would love her phone number ;)

I’m a ex feral leveler who went resto around level 58 because I was tired of looking so hard for groups. Now I think of myself as a healer :) I just recently reached level 80 and I’ve been reading everything I can find about resto druids. I’m gonna bookmark your cool site.

I’ve read what you’ve said about haste and I think I get it. I plan to respec to take Celestial focus, but I’m thinking that since I’m mostly just tank healing in 5 man heroics now that spell power is doing more for me than haste would when it comes to gems and enchants. (am I thinking about this right, or am I still not quite getting it?)

  15. Jiada says:

The link to your 2 specs does not load in. Any chance you could fix this so we could see the specs again?

  16. Prozah says:

ello there peeps and folks. hmm .. a restoration druid… and haste.. well atm, playing a resto druid for about 3 years for now. haste was not that much of a use in the past. atm … i consider haste being a primordial stat for a restoartion druid.
Haste = Lowered GCD , faster casting , faster rejuvs .. as i consider … haste = spam :D . many ppl whine about .. “that druid f***ed up my HPS” .. well my friend.. a druid … can compete with any healer.. on any post. i was MT healer, Raid healer and in some cases… ( council in ICC ) … personal healer :P .. no target .. that i heal.. dies.. well as a druid.. a resto druid… its .. imposible that ppl can die. but back to haste and 3.3… atm haste is one of the best stats to go for.. among with yes, spirit.. a druid that has mana… never lets a guy die. i have low crit as a resto druid … @ 14% or so.. buffed in raids.. goes @ 20%.. but generally.. talents offers us the crits ( toc set was pro .. 4 set bonus) tested also the new set… sticking with 2 set bonus atm till i can afford getting sanctified. )
have fun and… “More Hots!” ;)

    regards, respect, peace,
    Prozah.

  17. Holodream says:

Ok so i play a resto druid sitting at 25 icc level of gear about 5900 GS or so ive been told, i understand that you need 50% haste no buffs to reach haste cap which is 1639.5 Haste rating and i understand that 1% haste is equiv to 32.78 haste rating. So obvously speccing into GOTEM that puts it down to 40% haste required 5% from WOAT that puts it down to 35% then 3% from Imp Moonkin/Imp Ret so thats 32% haste required on gear thats with no CE. So from what i gather its 32.78 Haste rating to 1% so 32.78 multiplied by the remaing amount of haste needed thats like 1000 haste?. But this doesnt sound right to me i have been number crunching and to me it doesnt make sense my maths must definently be wrong please help D:

  18. Raelion says:

Holodream, your forgetting about Wrath of Air and Swift Ret Aura.

  19. Essq says:

I’m having a hard time reaching the haste cap. I dinged 80 on my restodruid 8days ago, and atm im sitting on only 495 haste. GS wise(5,4GS) im okay, but its the rare combinations of gear that i run around with. Still i have only been in 1xICC25 2xICC10 and 1xTOC10HC to perfect my healing rotation. Rightnow i can do around 6k HPS (10man) when healing is hard ,and with all this haste fuss being around i wonder if its the haste that is gonna put me over the top.

I have a question though: Is haste really that needed in 10man content? Cuase i see the point in 25mans, where you are able to have 17 Rejuvs at one time. but that 7 more rejuvs than ppl? So what im asking is that its the best sta to go for when youre raiding 10man content.

I actually like this post, it makes it a little easier to undertand than the actual restodruid elitist compendium :)

So THX for a great post :)

    • Archdruid Angela says:

Having high haste isn’t going to go to waste! Sure, its great in 25s for HoTting the raid (1 sec globals FTW!) but it also helps the things you might be called upon to do more in 10s. You can get your nourish and even your regrowth down to 1 second cast times stacking haste. Since even when spending more time on tanks in 10 man, the majority of your healing still comes form HoTs, it makes stacking crit not so useful. Especially when you consider you get a fair amount of crit already on nourish/regrowth already just form talents (25%!!!). So it make sense to stack haste.

SO… long post cut short: If you aren’t haste capped in 10 man it’s not the end of the world, but it’s still something you should work towards. Try to lean towards the gear that has sp/spirit/haste as oppose to sp/anything/crit! Best of luck :)

  20. Brattwurst says:

I am curious to know what haste glyph you are talking about and which glyphs you suggest for a ICC 10m progressive druid? My haste currently sits at 588 and my gear is around 3k GS on wow-heroes.com.
I use Glyph of Nourish, Glyph of Rejuvenation and Glyph of Wild Growth. I top healing meters in almost every raid I am in, which includes both ICC 25m and 10m. I still use Tier 9 gear but only for a set of 2 bonus for Nourish Crit +5%. My nourish crit about 30% of the time, which allows for Nature’s Grace to proc often enough to have a 0.963s cast time and allowing me to spam nourish for a minimum of 12k, with fully HoT’d tanks to hit 15k. I am not having any issues handling anything thrown my way in raids, nor am I running into mana issues. I agree with the importance of haste but it seems like I have to give up SP for this haste cap. How has it effected you during this transition? The gear is a bit tricky too. Any thoughts on keeping both set bonuses? (2 pieces of each?)

  21. JP says:

Thanks for the useful sight. I refer to it often when changing gear because i forget the caps :-)

I like your gear a lot as my guild is not as progressed (to say the least) I use the same belt as you because the putricide one never drops. I just have one question: Where is your extra socket for your belt? you should have 3 sockets with an eternal belt buckle applied.

    Anyway, thanks again.

  22. Ult says:

I’ve been stacking my haste, right now I’m at 791 without CF… I wanna be as top-notch as I can, but my guild is too casual and we’re really small, so when I raid I Pug(as bad as it usually is)… The question: since I’m not guaranteed to have the full raid-buffs, should I respec with CF and still hover around 800?

  23. Anathema - Aggramar-EU says:

Like holodream i’m confused about the numbers here. Maybe i don’t understand how GotEM works or something, but i thought it was something like this:

    hard cap 50% haste = 50%
    -10% from GotEM
    -5% from totem
    -3% from moonkin/pally
    that leaves 50% – 18% = 32%

But in your big list of numbers it says i need only 26.10% (the number at the bottom of the list). It’s driving me nuts, am i forgetting something or doing the calculations wrong?

  24. Phiish - nagrand - oceanic says:

so here is my question. i have become obsessed with this elusive haste cap and am drowning in the numbers.
at the end of the day the goal is to reach a GCD of 1.0 sec. what would be fantastic is to have an addon or some way of telling exactly WHAT my GCD is.. have i missed a big obvious note somewhere whilst getting smashed with numbers and formulas and buffs and things

  25. Goof says:

@Ult: The CF is up to you, normally in my pugs we at least have a shaman to get my 1sec GCD (sitting around 955 haste from gear only), but if you’re consistently having a much higher GCD (1.0x really isn’t that bad… you’re not even going to notice .09 of a sec).

There’s a few pieces I picked up in my transition from 3/3 to 0/3 CF that I found pretty helpful in keeping my 264 gear SP from dropping too much. One of the most useful was the wrists from Jaraxxus 25m (Bracers/Bindings of the Autumn Willow, highest lvl leather wrist with sp/spirit/haste; I eventually replaced these with the sp/spirit/crit wrists from Dreamwalker after I reached haste cap to bring my SP back up) and make your Blessed Cenarion Boots ASAP. I also recommend picking up the cloth sp/spirit/haste head piece from Saurfang 10m (Thaumaturge’s Crackling Cowl), I’ve been trying to wrangle up the Heroic version but too many clothies argue with me :( . I also recommend picking up the Vestments of Spruce and Fir (95 Frost Emblems), I’m pretty positive that’s BiS but it might be beaten by some Heroic version chest. It’s been a while since I actually reached 80 and geared out my resto spec (sitting at 6075 gs now), so I’ve kind of forgotten some of the more helpful pieces I picked up, I do remember I had 4T9 set for quite a while and most of my gear was purchased with emblems.

@Brattwurst I also contemplated doing 2T9 and 2T10 set bonuses, but decided against it when I looked at my overall heals… Normally ~50% comes from Rejuv, ~25% from WG and the last 25 is almost an equal mixture of Nourish, SM, LB and Regrowth. I also looked at my play style and I tend to choose SM (if it’s off CD) before I’ll start casting Nourish, just because it’s only a 15sec CD and in most raids you won’t actually NEED it, it’s more of a way to steal some hps from Pally/Shamans.

Just from personal experience I don’t choose to use the 4T10 set bonus because I tend to click too fast and end up refreshing the person it proc’d on right after it happens (so it wastes a GCD), but it is actually a practical set bonus depending on your play style, I did like the 4T9 a lot better.
