You, Haste, and 3.3

With the changes to Gift of the Earthmother, we have to work a little harder to cap off our global cooldown (GCD).  Having raided for a whole two days as not soft haste capped, I have to say… I needed a change.  So…. in addition to obviously having GotEM, I now also have three click into Celestial Focus for the extra 3% to haste.  Yes, this required me to go farther down the balance tree than I have previously, and I had to give up some restoration clicks, but I think it’s for the best.

I currently have two resto specs, both are very similar but slightly different, and with different glyphs.   I use one for 10 mans or smaller, and the other for 25 man… however I have included celestial focus in both specs.

So how much haste do you need for a 1 second GCD?  Below are some numbers borrowed from elitist jerks, hopefully you’ll find them helpful :)

   To sum it up, with raid buffs you most likely are looking for 735 haste with celestial focus, or 856 without it.

  1. I have been trying to figure this out.. Until now I never looked into much of class mathematics since my raiding has always been one patch behind.. i.e. I only started farming ToC now and attmepting ToGCs now.

But now I am looking to do lot of ICC10/25 so I started looking up these haste caps etc more rigourously.

The haste ratings mentioned above..Are they after raid buffs are applied or before they are applied? i.e. Is it the number that shows up on the character panel when I am soloing or when I am in Raid?

The numbers you see in this post are what you want BEFORE raid buffs are applied :)

  3. Re: Archdruid Angelas comment above – so what haste should I be looking for to get 1s GCD with raid buffs then? 735/856, or can it be lower?

    @ CowDude

You’re looking for 735 if you have 3 clicks in the “celestial focus” talent and 856 if you have 0 clicks in this talent

  5. Which spec do you use for 10 man and which do you use for 25 man?

  6. Archdruid Angela on December 21st, 2009 at 3:04 pm

I use my 1st spec (and a haste glyph) for 10s, and my 2nd spec (no haste glyph) for 25s

  7. Archdruid Angela on December 30th, 2009 at 5:26 pm

I’m happy to report that after getting a new necklace last night I’m now only 20 off haste cap in raid :) Very glad that I choose to take CF :)

For anyone reading this now, this is no longer the case. My first spec will now often be a PVP spec… so don’t visit my armory and think it’s a 10 man spec :) I’ll get the actual specs posted on here when I have time!!

.. dont see what the big deal is about being capped. I use a different spec than most druids so I dont remotely to be haste capped(while i am only 665 haste i still have ~21% :HT glyphed; .68 sec cast, avg cast=7800 in 10 man). I dont plan on doing tier ten(maybe i will show you the math in another post); so I need crit at least as much as haste(22% unbuffed). I will be posting the math as well as a multitude of samples soon. But my spec is about 1/3 tank hotting/swiftmending, 1/3 HT/swifment ppl who would most likely die w/o that heal, and 1/3 rejuving party. Who thinks a druid could be more usefull?

  12. Archdruid Angela on February 9th, 2010 at 12:27 pm

Arcsine – There is really no way to say this without seeming like an elitist bitch, which I really am not, but I’m going to say it anyway cause what the hell, it’s my blog :) People who take that sort of attitude are usually from unprogressed guilds and don’t really understand heavy raid damage. You probably heal your daily heroic, never quite killed Yogg, and think ToGC isn’t *really* harder than ToC, you just got bad luck. Show me as much math as you want, your post already told me that you think you have to do every healers job. Blanketing the raid doesn’t mean a druid isn’t being useful, it means that they have trust in the other healers in the raid to do their job. You have however inspired my next post on healingcouncil.com so watch for that in the next couple days :)

  14. Wow, how super insightful… i consider myself a major noob resto druid..compared to the knowledge that you throw out in these blogs and post…… i’ll definitely keep coming back for more… keep it up with these excellent posts!

I am now haste capped without Celestial focus (Thank you Dying Light!) and have gone to a 14-0-57 spec. *cheer*

  16. Is it worth keeping pts in nature’s grace after you hit 856? There aren’t a whole lot of really good talents left in resto but seems like those 3 pts could put to a better use

  17. Archdruid Angela on February 16th, 2010 at 11:08 pm

I didn’t have those three points there before the GotEM change, but now that I’ve had them I think I’ll keep them. On those occasions I’m casting a lot of regrowth they are handy, and the resto talent choices aren’t overly appealing.

  18. Greetings Archdruid Angela,

The cute Tauren gal on your site wallpaper is great, I know a tree that would love her phone number ;)

I’m a ex feral leveler who went resto around level 58 because I was tired of looking so hard for groups. Now I think of myself as a healer :) I just recently reached level 80 and I’ve been reading everything I can find about resto druids. I’m gonna bookmark your cool site.

I’ve read what you’ve said about haste and I think I get it. I plan to respec to take Celestial focus, but I’m thinking that since I’m mostly just tank healing in 5 man heroics now that spell power is doing more for me than haste would when it comes to gems and enchants. (am I thinking about this right, or am I still not quite getting it?)

  19. The link to your 2 specs does not load in. Any chance you could fix this so we could see the specs again?

  20. ello there peeps and folks. hmm .. a restoration druid… and haste.. well atm, playing a resto druid for about 3 years for now. haste was not that much of a use in the past. atm … i consider haste being a primordial stat for a restoartion druid.
Haste = Lowered GCD , faster casting , faster rejuvs .. as i consider … haste = spam :D . many ppl whine about .. “that druid f***ed up my HPS” .. well my friend.. a druid … can compete with any healer.. on any post. i was MT healer, Raid healer and in some cases… ( council in ICC ) … personal healer :P .. no target .. that i heal.. dies.. well as a druid.. a resto druid… its .. imposible that ppl can die. but back to haste and 3.3… atm haste is one of the best stats to go for.. among with yes, spirit.. a druid that has mana… never lets a guy die. i have low crit as a resto druid … @ 14% or so.. buffed in raids.. goes @ 20%.. but generally.. talents offers us the crits ( toc set was pro .. 4 set bonus) tested also the new set… sticking with 2 set bonus atm till i can afford getting sanctified. )
have fun and… “More Hots!” ;)

    regards, respect, peace,
    Prozah.

  21. Ok so i play a resto druid sitting at 25 icc level of gear about 5900 GS or so ive been told, i understand that you need 50% haste no buffs to reach haste cap which is 1639.5 Haste rating and i understand that 1% haste is equiv to 32.78 haste rating. So obvously speccing into GOTEM that puts it down to 40% haste required 5% from WOAT that puts it down to 35% then 3% from Imp Moonkin/Imp Ret so thats 32% haste required on gear thats with no CE. So from what i gather its 32.78 Haste rating to 1% so 32.78 multiplied by the remaing amount of haste needed thats like 1000 haste?. But this doesnt sound right to me i have been number crunching and to me it doesnt make sense my maths must definently be wrong please help D:
