Do I Want my HOTs to have Haste?
There is a lot of buzz about haste effecting HoTs. In 3.3 there will be a glyph that makes your haste effect your rejuvenations spell. Depending on how that goes, it may or may not be a permanent change to the spell mechanics. So…. do we want it?
Well the obviously good side is, it delivers more healing to a person in need. The faster my HoT ticks, the faster someone low on health gets what they need. So we want it right?
Well… see it’s not that simple. If it ticked faster but over the same chunk of time, of course it would be a no brainer, but that isn’t how it works. In ticking faster, the duration of Rejuvenation is shortened.
So what! It does the same amount of healing right?
But this could really make a difference to Druids who are expected to blanket Rejuv the raid. As it is right now I can roll Rejuvenation on 15 raid targets at once. If the duration of my rejuvenation was to be shortened, then I could keep HoTs rolling on fewer targets at once. And this is where the problem comes in.
Rejuvenation isn’t a life saver. Not that we *can’t* do a quick rejuvenation / swiftmend to save someone. And not that even a single rejuvenation doesn’t sometimes make the difference between someone living or dyeing. But as a generalization, the hots are more support heals to keep everyone high when they take a moderate amount of damage. Its great because you can have a small heal on lots of raid members at the same time. On fights like Twin Valks where there is constant, slow raid damage, HoTs are ideal. So why do we need them to be faster? For the “emergency” big damage there are other superior healing options.
I think for 10 man, hasted Rejuvenation will be great. I’ll still be able to blanket the raid, and my hots will click more often. It’s win-win. But from a 25 man standpoint, I don’t think I will want the haste effect. I think that our strength lies in being able to have the HoTs on so many people.
But of course, I’ll probably try it anyway when it’s new. Sometimes things that seem like a bad idea on paper somehow end up working really well in a raid. For now I’ll just have to wait patiently for 3.3 to come out.
